George Coon is a seasoned finance executive with over 35 years of experience in the financial services industry, specializing in corporate and mezzanine lending, private banking, and financial administration. Recently retired, George held senior roles with leading financial institutions, including RBC, First West Capital, HSBC, BMO, and ATB. His most recent role was as Director of Corporate Client Group for Northern Alberta and the Northwest Territories at RBC.
Throughout his career, George has been a trusted advisor to businesses, providing strategic guidance in sales and business development, business execution, banking, finance, and risk management. His experience includes serving as CFO for Canadian Industrial Paramedics, an Oil and Gas Services company.
George’s leadership and expertise extend to board governance, where he has made significant contributions. He currently serves on the Board of Directors, as well as the Audit & Risk Committees and Conduct Review Committee, for Bridgewater Bank. He previously served as Board Chair for the Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation, where he was also Governance Chair, and was a Board Member and Treasurer of the Association for Corporate Growth. Additionally, George has held the role of Director and Chair of the Audit Committee for the Certified Management Accountants of Alberta and was a member of the JR School of Business Accounting Program Advisory Committee.
George is known for his strategic insight, relationship-building skills, and commitment to community service. Beyond his professional achievements, George enjoys spending quality time with his two adult children. He and his wife, Heather, divide their time between Maui and Nova Scotia, where they cherish long walks on the beach and the tranquility of the ocean.
